Dimitris Droutsas in talks in Belgrade at
the start of a Western Balkans tour.

    Bulgaria’s support for Macedonia
conditional on its behaviour – Borissov
Bulgarian PM Boiko Borissov and visiting
    Macedonian counterpart Nikola Gruevski

    Pray for Macedonia (FYROM)
    Updated Jan. 4, 2010

'Balkanize' is in fact a verb, defined by
Webster's Dictionary as "to break up (as a
region or group) into smaller and often
hostile units".  Before the world's eyes we
have seen this played out in recent years
    throughout the Balkans as Yugoslavia
violently broke up. So in praying for the
Balkans as a whole, let us ask the Lord to
do a work of calming tensions, helping
people to forgive, and bring healing to
those hurt by war and acts of mistrust.

    1.        Macedonia is a country that has
    three main ethnic groups; Slavic
    Macedonians, Bulgarians and Albanians
(Muslim). In 2001 there was a short civil
war as the Albanians exerted separatist
rights. The war ended with the
    intervention of a NATO ceasefire
monitoring force. Under the terms of the
    Ohrid Agreement, the government agreed
to delegate greater political power and
    cultural recognition to the Albanian
minority. The Albanian side agreed to
abandon separatist demands and to fully
    recognise all Macedonian institutions. Let
us pray that tensions would be calmed
and grace would come from the Lord for
    the country.

    2.        The unemployment rate in
Macedonia is near 35%. This can bring
much tension on a new country as people
struggle to make ends meet.  Many have
turned to the black market. Let us pray for
    industry, production and foreign
investment to rise. May the Macedonians
not give up but have confidence in the
future. Let us pray that they would be
    restored to legitimate income.

    3.        Let us pray for the Macedonian
    government. With Macedonia being a
newly independent country for just 18
years now they struggle to hold the
country together. May God bring together
legislators that are not corruptible, raise
up institutions that seek the true welfare
of the citizens and install a judicial system
that honors justice. Pray for the new
    president, George Ivanov.

    4.        Religions: Macedonian Orthodox
    64.7%, Muslim 33.3%, other Christian
    0.37%, other and unspecified 1.63%
(2002 census) This means that there is
less than 1% Evangelicals in Macedonia.
The Lord desires that none perish. Let us
first pray for revival in the present
churches and that they would receive a
    vision to reach their country.

    5.        There are reports of Gypsy
churches growing. Lord we intercede for
the gypsy saints. Lord we ask that you
favor them every way possible. Remove
the stigmas of the past. Lord deliver them
    form curses (superstitions) that have
    marked their ethnic background.

    6.        Let us pray for the Orthodox and
    Catholic churches of Macedonia. May
they break out of their liturgy with the joy
that refreshes the soul. Lord we ask that
You visit these churches and release a
    Light in their mist.

If you have more prayer points, more
information or corrections to this list,
    please email.

    (Listed 3-22-10)

Last week I visited a church here in the Dallas area to hear Pastor
Mario Ducic from Croatia speak. The week before we had prayed
for Croatia. It was great to hear what God is doing in Croatia. Then
after the meeting I met a couple that are with Teen Challenge and
have been working in Eastern Europe helping to set up centers to
help drug addicts. Their names are Dr. David and Heather Ozanne.
I encourage you look at their website, www.ozanneministry.com.
They helped set up a center in Slovakia and Serbia and recently
Skopje, Macedonia. (Great testimonies on their website) It was a
blessing to hear what God has been doing in Macedonia.
    1)        Lord we thank You for this labor of love to the hurting in
Macedonia. Lord we lift up David and Heather as they plan to return
to Macedonia to complete the center there. May this be an open
door that will set many free from the Devil’s vices. Lord we pray that
all the resources will be met and the barns of supply will be full.
Show Your power to heal and set free.
    2)        Lord, we pray that the churches in Macedonia would get on
board and recognize this is You coming to heal their nation. Let us
lift up Elim Church in Skopje, asking the Lord to bless them for
opening their doors to the broken drug addicts.
    3)        Lets pray for Jonatan Vlaisavljevic, Director of Teen
Challenge Macedonia, and that staff will be found for the center’s
    operation.
    4)        Lord, we ask that You would burden the churches in
Macedonia to reach out to the lost in their culture. May the
Christians realize the joy of sharing You to others.
James 5: 19-20 “Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the
truth, and someone turns him back, Let him know that he who turns
a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and
    cover a multitude of sins.”
    5)        For many years now the Summer youth camps have been so
successful for touching the young people in the Balkans. Let us
pray that the workers would volunteer, the plans would be made,
finances would be available and a great expectation would draw
    many.
Foreign Minister Antonio Milososki said recently that the
Macedonian economy is showing a great improvement from last
year. Where there was a deficit of 0.7 percent last year, this year
    they expecting 2 percent increase.
    6)        Lord we pray for economic blessings for the Macedonian
people. Lord, let not the enemy steal the reward of their labor. Let
us pray that Christians would be able to reap benefits from this
    expected increase in the marketplace.
    7)        There continues to be ethnic problems in Macedonia. Let us
pray there first of all the Christians would reject a racist attitude.
May the churches be a place where all people are accepted and
welcomed just because God loves them.

Correction: David and Heather Ozanne did not help on the ground
with setting up of Teen Challenge in Serbia but rather provided
    advice by email.

Note from Jerry, Prayer Coordinator: Usually by Friday I start doing
research on the next week’s country that is to be targeted for prayer.
Then on Sunday evening I start seeking the Lord for the direction of the
prayer points and wrap it up Monday morning in time to send out the
emails. This past weekend I was either not focused or other things were
pressing my time. I finally sat down this (Monday) afternoon to seek the
Lord, first asking His forgiveness as I waited on His leading. One thing I
had done on Friday was to send an email to a brother in Macedonia
asking for his input. So I went to my email to see if he had responded. He
had responded and as I read his suggested prayer points I heard the
Lord say, “This is it, you need not add anything.” So the following is from
a fellow prayer warrior, Bryan Brenchley. He references many scriptures
and I suggest you look them up and pray the Word over the matter.

Jerry:
Thank you so much for your consistent and persistent prayers for the
Balkans and all you are doing to call people to pray.  That is the most
important thing we can do.  This is a critical time for Macedonia and I am
glad to share with you some current prayer requests:

Government of Macedonia:
The government is stuck in a difficult position regarding leading
Macedonia into the NATO and the European Union.  Greece does not
accept that Macedonia should be called “Republic of Macedonia”.  Nor
do they accept the historical identity of ethnic Macedonians.  Without an
agreeable change to both of these conditions Greece is able to block
Macedonia’s entry into both of these organizations.  The government
and people are frustrated.  This problem is mostly spiritual and not
political. Recently God seems to be making this clear to many people.
About a month ago the President of Macedonia, Georgi Ivanov, did invite
pastors from the Protestant Churches of Skopje to meet with him and to
pray with him for Macedonia.  He asked the pastors and churches to
continue to pray for this issue to be resolved.
PRAYER POINTS:
1.
Thank the Lord that He is using this “roadblock” to to turn hearts
toward Him.
2.        Thank the Lord for opening up the heart of the President to reach
out to the pastors.  Pray that the pastors will be faithful in praying and
leading the local church to pray for the government and for the country.
3.        Pray that the Lord will open up a deeper relationship between the
Protestant Church and the government leaders of Macedonia.
4.        Pray Psalm 33:12 over Macedonia:

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD,
the people he chose for his inheritance.

Relationship with Greece:
The relationship between believers in Macedonia and Greece is almost
non-existent.  This needs to change soon.
PRAYER POINTS:
1.
Pray Ephesians 2:14-18 over the Church in Macedonia and
Greece – that we would agree Him  “who has made the two one and has
destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility” and that we are now
reconciled to God and having the one and same Father.
2.        Pray John 15:11-14 over the believers in Macedonia and Greece
– that we would love one another as He loves us, that we would lay down
our lives for one another as He has done for us.”
3.        Pray that the Church in Macedonia would pray for and bless the
nation and people of Greece.  Pray that the Lord would release again a
“giving spirit” among the Macedonian people according to Philippians 4:
14-16.
4.        Pray that the Lord would open up a door for Macedonian
believers to meet with Greek believers in the next month.

Evangelical Church in Macedonia:
PRAYER POINTS:
1.
Thank the Lord for a gathering of over 200 intercessors who met
to pray and worship the Lord together in Skopje on the Global Day of
Prayer, May 23, 2010.
2.        Thank the Lord for an increased spirit of reconciliation that He is
releasing in the Church in Macedonia.  There are initial talks now for
some churches that went through a split over 12 years ago to meet and
to reconcile.
3.        Pray that the Lord would continue to pour out a spirit of unity over
the Church in Macedonia according to Jesus prayer in John 17:20-23.
4.        Pray that the Lord would bless a new initiative to establish a Bible
and Practical Ministry training school in Skopje.  Ask the Lord to release
teachers and funding needed to translate materials.
5.        Pray for the establishment of a House of Prayer in Skopje and in
cities throughout Macedonia – in response to the Lord’s desire of Isaiah
66:1:
This is what the LORD says:
 "Heaven is my throne,
and the earth is my footstool.
Where is the house you will build for me?
Where will my resting place be?

I hope that this gives you some current and practical prayer points to
share with those who are interceding for Macedonia this week.

Blessings in Christ,
Bryan

forward it to him.
Prayer Requests
The summer is almost here and we wish
to inform you of our future activities and
to ask for your prayers.
During June we wish to organize a day-
camp for our teenagers. It will be
somewhere near the city. It will be an
opportunity for them to invite friends and
relatives. While enjoying a nice time
together, we will also take the
opportunity to share the gospel with
them. Please pray for a good weather
and for open hearts.
The younger children will not be
forgotten. They are going to visit the zoo
and enjoy themselves.
In July we are planning to organize a five-
day hick in the mountains of central
Macedonia. Only the teenagers will join
us for a time of fun and spiritual
instruction. Pray for those who organize
this. Ask God for safety for the children,
open minds and a good weather.
As usual, we have been invited to help
the Children’s Evangelism Fellowship
with their two camps. Please pray for
God’s guidance so that we may reach
children for him.
August is a sort of a dead month.
Nothing is usually happening since
everyone is on holiday. Since several of
us have been ill during the past year, we
would like to go to the sea coast. Sea
water will help us with some of our health
issues. Please pray that we may spend
at least some time at the seaside.
